Why don't I just use the vacuum cleaner bag on it's own?

It would of course be tempting to just use the vacuum bag fleece on it's own, but the problem is that when you cut up the bag the layers won't stick together as well unless you sew them together. The filter material is quite stiff and the raw material against your face won't be comfortable. To minimize airflow around your nose you will also need the help of a little padding.

Encasing the filter in a layer of fabric on both sides will also ensure that the mask that you painstakingly made will hold up to a lot of (hot) washing, and daily wear and tear. You probaly won't want to go through all that hassle for a product that you can only use once.
